Chains

Henpecked, Hardboiled, uptight and erstwhile
There’s a broken link
In the chain of life
Where deadly words breed vicious things
For without the sadness, solace would never sing

Berated, besmirched, bedazzled, be dead
There’s a broken fence
In this yard we tend
Where now our wall is open wide
a rift that won’t outlast the coming tide

Gluttony and greed; Impatience and need
Jealousy and jade; Sacrifice betrayed
Sins sorely earned, remind each, the misery’s made

A domino in a pinwheel haze
A manhole cover in a perplexed state
Wonton travails and lacking none
Ever so slowly, rings high, the shrapnel of a smoking gun

Diagnoses incomplete
Nightmares upon your sea of dream
Setting sail to steer the course
Impelling you toward expirations force

Car-crashed, Collapsed, Crushed and Concussed
Tinfoil patrons of a tinny turn, shining in sparkled trance
Where glittering mares whinny and neigh, forever altering the semblance of the everyday

There’s a broken link in the chain of command
Where false-fed improprieties are delivered to mouth,
Deceptions we must obey or be exiled away
To a far away domain, might be better, but we believe is
Bad, for that, is all the propaganda shows us as

There’s a broken link in the chain of life
Where calamity smiles with its omniscient smirk of strife
Where paralyzed visions remind and tend
To the sated depressions deeply a-rest in the sadness of our strongest men
…leaving forgiveness and the forward march
as flights of fancy, be toys alone, for the fantastical and mad

About hobgoblin2011

In 2012 I was 370 lbs, dealing with severe spinal injuries and miserable in every aspect of the word. Through hard work, dedication and the installation of self-belief, I changed everything about myself. It took 5 years to become the person I am today and I want to share everything I’ve learned during my transformation. Transformations aren’t solely about weight loss. I’ve learned that to truly transform you must change in many more ways than that. I hope to provide useful tips, information and motivation/inspiration to anyone who needs to make a Change themselves.

  1. Wonderful reading, I found it brought out parts I didn’t put the proper emotional emphasis upon. As ever, your interplay of sound and meaning reminds me of what poetry is capable of, impressive!

Great poem – I enjoyed your reading. It’s always surreal to hear the voice of an online face you’ve only been reading on the page. Fantastic alliteration and internal rhyme going on. I’m impressed with your word choices, and these lines say it all: “Where deadly words breed vicious things / For without the sadness, solace would never sing” I especially like “domino in a pinwheel haze” and the whole stanza beginning “Car-crashed, Collapsed, Crushed and Concussed”.
