The Judge, Juror and Executor

An omniscient spirit hovers
it’s silver whims
bear cruel futures

and designs of black
pools linger, caressing
the harbinger’s un-satiated wrath

Narrow bolts
relentlessly flicker
above these nerves

strung out and frayed
an old piano proves,
that she can expand her lungs,
wide and proud, still able to
deliver, either
ambiance or shroud

The circle’s stain, prominently
displayed, atop some relic of
in impolite mannerisms,
illustrating it’s contempt for the past

a past that’s delivered this…

A future where man shall plunge deeper into it’s own self-servitude
and pitiful sicknesses conjured just for sympathy’s sake alone

Pneumonias, Plagues, Herniations, mental disorders and
of course, matters of the heart

Each it’s own vice
Each it’s letters, capable of it’s own special brand

of weary mornings left alone
or eager nights too early shut

collapsed, does draw the cage
when gambling upon such lectures

when soon comes the keeper’s gazing stare
will we behave appropriately, spill out
every ounce of truth we are capable of breathing;
speak in tones fitting of a judiciary, acting as if
this is not some schoolhouse lecture where we can
cram for the corresponding quizzes the evenings prior
to examination

or will we thrust every minute detail of the self
into a chronic desire to remain in cloud cover

and when the holder of your final fate looks you square in the eyes;
understand he will allot you the benefit of the doubt, at first,

So, when he asks you what you’ve learned, if you’ve loved, truly loved,
what will your answers be?

I'm a poet and aspiring screenwriter/songwriter with a passion for film, art, photography, philosophy and heavy metal. I love reading, mainly non-fiction, comic books, graphic novels, myth and reference. Family always comes first for me. I'm a proud father to two wonderful pups and two curious cats. I'm also a glutton for punishment aka the life of being a diehard Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan.

    I don’t know if I’ve learned anything yet. 🙂

    I really like these:

    “strung out and frayed
    an old piano proves,
that she can expand her lungs,
wide and proud, still able to
    deliver, either
    ambiance or shroud”

    in impolite mannerisms”
